Molds our present and future: history. Within my sustained investigation, I set out to explore the fundamental similarities our modern age has with antiquity. From parallel emotional connections across centuries to historically ambiguous collages, my photographs display that while technology progresses forward, the human instinct remains stagnant. By highlighting akin details of the past and present, it shows how just much our society can continue to improve. Further, the acknowledgment that our history is seeping into today, is the only way to change the things we want to see altered in the future.
My investigation went through multiple brainstorming and revision phases during this year-long process. I began my journey exploring New York City through the eyes of a film camera. Using these images, I juxtaposed the raw moments I captured with similar instances decades or centuries beforehand. However, I wanted to take those side-by-side inquiries and shape them into a more dynamic singular picture. Therefore, I started researching the ways both photoshop and traditional glue-and-scissor collages could help me achieve my end goal: showcasing the similarities between the past and present.
