How to find the “light” that reveals self? I explored emotion, anxiety, and loneliness through the perspective of a high school student’s eyes, in ways analyzing my mindset in my high school career. I learned that the expression of negative emotions seemed beautiful in the eyes of audiences and that the “true self” can easily be hidden under artificial beauty. My portfolio contains a series of works revolving around the motif of “face”, “light” and “words”, displaying the progression of self-discovery.
Overall, I better understood the use of lights and the composition of photos. I used color, words, emphasis, composition, and texture. I practiced the lighting and background setup, producing more than 10 shots in the studio. I experimented with new media (collage) (#14) and skills (rear-end shutter sync) (did not make it to the final), and gained a better understanding of adding diversity to composition. In the shoots, there will be unexpected errors that occur, or the result will turn out to be terrible (e.g. #4), I abandoned my original idea of “reflection”, and instead did framing.
