Colombia’s history of political tension and protesting precedes my existence. Despite my love for the complex Colombian culture, there is an insulating barricade between my experience of Colombia and reality. Since I came to boarding school I’m only home three or four times a year, so I’ve always watched my country’s peril from a deserted distance. As protesting started in April of 2021 the paradoxical disjunction inside my soul began to tremble so I sought to answer myself: How can I use activism photojournalism to profoundly connect with my country and culture?
