Different visuals create different experiences. Collages allow seemingly normal photos to turn into intriguing images. It is a really interesting way to combine two moments. With these pictures, I hope to make the viewer take a second look at the world around them.
I have aways enjoyed doing collages and I quickly decided to focus on them for m concentration. In the beginning I was just experimenting with people and the different cuts possible. For example , Image 1 and 2 are from the same photoshoot but I felt I could create very different visual using the same type of picture. After using faces for a little while I switched over to the idea of combining landscapes together. I felt that I picked images that wouldn’t normally go together but actually support each other nicely. In image 6, I combined a Memphis, Tennessee moral with the urban architecture of New York City. These two places would not naturally come together but they compliment each others differences. The next thing I did to advance the process was to try using vellum paper. Image 9 and 10 use vellum and create confusing visual where you can combine two or more pictures but still see all of them. The final step to my concentration expansion was trying Photoshop. It was a very different process than what I had been used to but the outcome was pretty cool. Image 11 was actually a combination of mediums. The background of the collage was painted by myself and then combined with a picture of the Colosseum in Italy. In the end, I created a diverse group of picture that all fall under the umbrella of collages.
