What makes us human? I explored this idea While photographing different people. And I wanted to tell the story of everyone who participated in my portfolio Before each shoot, I spoke with the model and asked them what ‘makes them human’?. Each person’s answer was unique. In image 10, the model wanted to showcase her Latvian culture; which is something most people don’t know about. Unique and different cultures are what make us human. In image 2, the model wanted to tell the story of losing identity, and being stripped of one’s identity, but holding on to a piece of one’s identity. I overlaid a photo of trees with the photo of the subject. Identity is what makes us human and is also represented in image 11 with a reflective photo to represent being different. In images 3, 8, 13, and 9 I investigated different emotions: happiness, being overwhelmed, drowning in emotions, and the feeling of being hidden. In image 5, the model wanted to share a story about loving your body and accepting yourself as you are. These are all things that contribute to us being human. What makes you human?
